Born in the inner city of New Orleans, Louisiana, Kim Green-Williams learned how to survive and make a lot out of little.  Although the product of a two parent home, she learned early the pain of loss.  As if losing a parent was not a hard enough lesson to learn, Kim gained extra tutoring in life by living in a constant state of change.  With a mother caring for three children, Kim’s journey forced her to develop a thick skin and a sharp memory.  When life gives you lemons, you have to learn how to make something sweet from them.  So, that is what Kim did.  Instead of becoming bitter, she learned to walk and then run into something greater than her eyes could see or her mind imagine.  It all started with her educational and athletic experiences.  Both offered a way of escape from the realities of the world.

Kim attended public school from kindergarten to ninth grade.  During that time, her abilities were nurtured by Black excellence.  The teachers who left the greatest impressions on her were people who looked like her.  They did not see or care who her parents were or where she lived.  Instead, they saw her and not through her.  Through daily lessons, they cultivated a world of possibilities that stretched beyond where she lived and reached into the future she desired.  Consequently, Kim was confident that she was as capable as any student and could compete both academically as well as athletically against the best.  Those beliefs led to the opportunity to  attend a private catholic school and graduate while juggling classes and sports.  But, it did so much more.  The journey developed an inner desire to give back what had been shared with her.  Refusing to allow fear or circumstances to hold her captive, she leaped when opportunity came searching for her.

Immediately after high school, Kim accepted a full scholarship to St. Augustine’s College. From the prestigious institute, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Performance and Wellness.  She is a former member of the Lady Falcon basketball (1996-2000) and softball (1998-2000) teams.  During her time, she developed an even greater appreciation for Black excellence through her involvement in activities and continuous exposure to people and places of greatness.  What impacted Kim most during her time at St. Augustine’s College were the many relationships built not only with classmates and teammates but also with the community members and school stakeholders.  Through each endeavor, one characteristic remained the same. That was the need to build relationships in order to have a positive impact on the world through changing your own communities.

 Understanding the positive impact that education and sports had on her, Kim continued her educational studies at Kaplan University graduating with a Master of Art Degree in Teaching and a Master of Science Degree in Health Education.  Believing in the need to heal the whole person through affecting the mind, body, and spirit, Kim has dedicated her life to becoming a change agent and a dreamkeeper through living her life as a community servant.  She believes that educators and coaches are the gatekeepers to the opportunities that can lead young people to become successful.  One of her favorite quotes is by Shirley Chisholm, “Service is the rent that you pay for a room on this earth.”

Prior to Kim’s educational journey as a High School Teacher, she started coaching in 2015 as a middle school volleyball, basketball, and track coach.  Later (2018), Kim was afforded the opportunity to assist alongside her high school basketball coach at St. Mary’s Academy High School .  That same year the SMA girl’s basketball team advanced to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association State Championship game.  Kim has over 25 years of experience working with the youth in many different capacities, which exhibits her passion and commitment to excellence and self-efficacy.

Currently, Kim is teaching as a Health and Physical Education, spearheading a new sports program as an Athletic Director, a Certified First Aid/CPR Instructor, and a track and field Coach at New Orleans Charter Science and Mathematics High School in New Orleans, Louisiana and using the opportunity to invest in the lives of our youth in the community.  A strong advocate for the youth and her community, she serves as an active member of the graduate chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Order of the Eastern, PHA, NAACP of the New Orleans chapter, and a board member (outreach coordinator) of Queendom 101, a 501 c3 organization.   Through each and every organization, she works with others to change the way the community sees themselves and their possibilities.  In addition, Kim has volunteered to dedicate her time to serve as the St. Augustine’s University Alumni Recruiter at local colleges and universities fairs in the New Orleans area.
